[Bug 282997] New: Kernel bug+oops partly disables touchpad
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282997 Summary: Kernel bug+oops partly disables touchpad Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ruedas@dtm.ciw.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de Hi, my laptop (Amilo Pi 1536 w/ Centrino Duo) has a touchpad which has two areas, the large main one for "tapping" input and a narrow strip on one side for scrolling. Sometimes the touchpad would not respond to any but the most basic, single-finger "tapping" input, i.e. scrolling, two- and three-finger actions etc are suddenly disabled, which severely reduces the usefulness of the touchpad. The only way to reactivate this seems to be to log out so that X is restarted. The relevant output from /var/log/messages is given below; possibly the graphics card module (fglrx, for an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400) is involved, but I don't know if it's crucial for the bug to occur. I seem to recall that I experienced this problem with SUSE 10.1 as well on one occasion. The first two lines of this messages output occur quite frequently, but don't seem to affect performance and are apparently unrelated or only loose connected to this problem. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282997 jeffm@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #1 from jeffm@novell.com 2007-06-11 14:23 MST ------- This bug actually *is* in the proprietary fglrx driver, instead of just the possibility of being caused by it. We have absolutely no way of debugging this. Please file the bug report with ATI. As an aside, once an Oops has occured (from any cause), all bets are off. Anything can happen. Locks may be still held by the process that was killed, there may have been memory corruption, or a number of other things. So, apologies, but I'm going to have to close this one out as INVALID. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
