[Bug 260479] New: ifup-wireless doesn't start wpa_supplicant because getcfg -d . -f ifcfg- -- ath0 reported HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0="invalid";
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=260479 Summary: ifup-wireless doesn't start wpa_supplicant because getcfg -d . -f ifcfg- -- ath0 reported HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0="invalid"; Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 2plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rnissl@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de After installing the kernel-default-2.6.21_rc5-2 rpm on my openSUSE 10.2 system, I had to compile the madwifi drivers (svn = 0.9.3plus) on my own and succeeded. The drivers got loaded and the interface ath0 appeared, but wpa_supplicant didn't get started by /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/ifup-wireless because HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0 contained "invalid" instead of "wlan". After adding "WIRELESS='yes'" to '/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan-bus-pci-0000:03:09.0', wpa_supplicant get's startet and the interface works properly. After that I've installed openSUSE 10.3 Alpha 2plus on a fresh partition, compiled the madwifi drivers again and there the same problem appeared (and the same workaround fixed it) when setting up the interface. Finally I've booted openSUSE 10.2 (kernel-default-2.6.18.8-0.1), compiled the madwifi-svn drivers for 10.2 and there the problem did not happen (i. e. wpa_supplicant got started). So at the moment I have no idea where the problem (that getcfg reports HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0="invalid") comes from. Here is output for the above getcfg call for kernel 2.6.18.8-0.1: HWD_HWDESC="ath0"; HWD_HWDESCTYPE="interface"; HWD_INTERFACE_N="1"; HWD_INTERFACE_0="ath0"; HWD_INTERFACEPATH_0="/sys/class/net/ath0"; HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0="wlan"; HWD_ID="00:09:5b:e7:0e:c4"; HWD_BUS_N="1"; HWD_BUSNAME_0="pci"; HWD_BUSID_0="0000:03:09.0"; HWD_VENDORID="0x168c"; HWD_PRODUCTID="0x0013"; HWD_VENDORSUBID="0x1385"; HWD_PRODUCTSUBID="0x4d00"; HWD_DRIVER="ath_pci"; HWD_CONFIG_N="0"; HWD_DEVICEPATH="/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:09.0"; And here is the output for kernel 2.6.21_rc5-2: HWD_HWDESC="ath0"; HWD_HWDESCTYPE="interface"; HWD_INTERFACE_N="1"; HWD_INTERFACE_0="ath0"; HWD_INTERFACEPATH_0="/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:09.0/ath0"; HWD_INTERFACETYPE_0="invalid"; HWD_BUS_N="1"; HWD_BUSNAME_0="pci"; HWD_BUSID_0="0000:03:09.0"; HWD_VENDORID="0x168c"; HWD_PRODUCTID="0x0013"; HWD_VENDORSUBID="0x1385"; HWD_PRODUCTSUBID="0x4d00"; HWD_DRIVER="ath_pci"; HWD_CONFIG_N="0"; HWD_DEVICEPATH="/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:09.0"; -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
