[Bug 1108658] New: Wired network on Raspberry Pi 3 doesn't work unless tcpdump is running
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1108658 Bug ID: 1108658 Summary: Wired network on Raspberry Pi 3 doesn't work unless tcpdump is running Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: aarch64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: dheidler@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 783311 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=783311&action=edit dmesg I'm using a raspberry pi version 3 with tumbleweed 20180905. I installed it using the jeos image. Wireless network (via unencrypted network, configured via yast) works fine. "ethtool eth0" reports link with 1000Mb/s and full duplex. The leds next to the RJ45 socket are not lit. "wicked test dhcp4 eth0" fails with "DHCP4 discovery failed". As soon as I start "tcpdump -i eth0" on a different shell, I can communicate using eth0. "wicked test dhcp4 eth0" now returns a response from the dhcp server and "wicked ifup eth0" brings the interface up. The leds are still not lit, though. As soon as I stop tcpdump, there is no data going through eth0 anymore. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With kernel 4.18.8-1.gf486469 from Kernel:stable I do get network connectivity. The blacklist of the microchip module works here. The orange data led on the RJ45 port does NOT blink here.
Not blacklisting the module doesn't change anything here.
So with 4.18.x, the initial issue got fixed? The fixed PHY support (commit 89b36fb5e53244) might be the relevant fix between 4.17 and 4.18. The LED behavior change might be the upstream change about LED status reading from DT (commit 1827b0678863). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
