Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: l_pat_s@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) This problem began with my human error, but resulted in me discovering what I suspect may be a software error. I wanted to delete a folder. So in Konqueror Release 3.5.10 ("release 21.12.1") in the K Desktop Environment Release (KDE) 3.5.10 ("release 21.12.1") in my OpenSuSE-11.1, Linux operating system using version 2.6.27.45-0.1-pae of the Linux kernel, I right-touch-pad-button clicked on the folder I wanted to delete and selected "Cut;" I did this at least two times. Perhaps a piece of software has not been designed for the case of someone selecting "Cut" two times for a folder or file. But eventually I discovered that that was not the best way to delete the folder. So to delete it, I right-touch-pad-button-clicked on the folder and this time selected "Move to Trash." I think that operation was successful in deleting the folder in Konqueror. I realize that there was another thing that I did not do along with the action of "Cut"ting the folder that was probably outside the norm. Normally one would first copy a folder to the clipboard, then cut it, and finally paste those contents of the clipboard in some other directory. In this instance I did not first copy the file to the clipboard before trying to cut it within Konqueror. The folder was originally generated by running the program LaTeX2HTML on a .tex file. So by running that program again, a new folder of the same name as the one I earlier deleted was formed. But the problem was that the replaced folder's color was grey, not blue! It was as if the system "remembered" the "Cut" state, which I think may have been indicated by the grey folder color, of the folder I already deleted. I imagine that the problem might be in OpenSuSE 11.1, Konqueror 3.5.10, or KDE 3.5.10. The grey color seems to be on a system icon called "folder_grey." So for that reason I wonder if the "remembering"-instead-of-"forgetting" problem could be in the OpenSuSE-11.1, operating system. On pressing the F5 key to refresh the display of Konqueror, the folder I have been discussing at first appeared as blue-colored, but then quickly changed to grey-colored.--Perhaps that will be a clue for someone to solve and/or localize the problem. Restarting the OpenSuSE-11.1, Linux operating system was also insufficient to have the folder color changed from grey to blue. My problem with the folder color was solved in a way I did not expect it to occur. I copied the grey-colored folder to the directory in the hierarchy of directories above the then-current one. Then in each of those two directories the color of the same-named folder was then blue! I could delete the folder in the upper-level directory. After that event, gratefully the color of the folder in the lower-level directory was still blue! I suppose one may have to go deep into some piece of software to undo the computer software's "memory" of the "Cut" state of such a deleted folder. This problem was functionally not a serious one. Eventually files could be written inside the grey-colored folder. So at that point in time the only problem of which I was aware was the less-attractive grey color compared to the beautiful blue color of the folder. On the human side of this matter, the proactive solution for me is to in the future be in less of a hurry and to think before I do something on my computer. On the software side of this matter I don't think the software should "remember" the "Cut" state of the name of a folder after the folder with that name has been deleted. So if you agree that that is a problem, I hope someone could fix that. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right-button-click on a folder in Konqueror 3.5.10 and select "Cut." Do this twice. 2. Do something else. Right-button-click on that folder, probably now grey-colored, and this time select "Move to Trash." 3. Generate a new folder with the same name and in the same directory as the folder previously "Move"d "to Trash;" the new folder may be grey-colored instead of blue-colored. Expected Results: I would have expected a fresh generation of a folder with the same name and in the same directory as the deleted folder to have been blue-colored instead of grey-colored in Konqueror 3.5.10. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
