[Bug 569858] New: Using garmin_gps kernel module locks up the machine
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569858 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569858#c0 Summary: Using garmin_gps kernel module locks up the machine Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: christian.steinruecken@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.249.30 Safari/532.5 Plugging in a Garmin GPS USB unit such as the "Garmin Venture HC" leads to the "garmin_gps" kernel module to be loaded. The driver provides a device file ttyUSB0, which, when accessed, messes up the machine to the extend that a reboot is required. For example, logins no longer work, processes accessing USB go into uninterruptable sleep and weird write errors turned up on my external USB hard drive. I have a feeling the garmin_gps kernel module is more of a nuisance than being useful, since the most common way to access Garmin GPS devices seems to be using "gpsbabel", which requires no special kernel drivers (and indeed doesn't work if the garmin_gps kernel driver is loaded). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Plug in a Garmin GPS USB unit. 2. Access device file. 3. Sit back and enjoy as weird errors happen. Actual Results: Machine is left in an unusable state. Expected Results: Anything but this. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Reproducing requires hardware we don't have. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
