Without the two USB_Devices the framebuffer-mode vga=31a starts. Without the two USB_Devices the framebuffer-mode vga=31a starts Sounds like a really broken BIOS. The EDD probing might somehow have broken the video modes structure. The message in Q is at the end of arch/x86/boot/video.c, BTW.
