Another option could be to split the instsys and create a striped down version for the 1CD. Steffen, would this make any sense to you? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304959#c8 --- Comment #8 from Mike Fabian <mfabian@novell.com> 2007-08-28 08:29:37 MST --- Of course no Khmer font was installed by default when you didn’t installed in Khmer or selected Khmer as additional supported language in YaST2. Bug reports like this appear again from time to time, sometimes even requesting that viewing Unicode sample pages like http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/utf8.html no boxes should be seen by default. That would mean, that we would have to install at least one font for each language by default, even if support for this language is not explicitly requested. I’m not against this, actually I think it would be a good idea to install some more fonts by default. Microsoft Windows Vista apparently installs more than 300MB fonts by default! But previous bug reports of that kind were never going anywhere because many people were very much opposed against installing more fonts by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304959#c9 --- Comment #9 from Mike Fabian <mfabian@novell.com> 2007-08-28 08:40:06 MST --- See also bug #156045. I thought that it would be a good idea to have at least the fonts available in the instsys also available in the installed system. Then we would have at least one font for each language supported by YaST2 which might be a reasonable compromise. And, as these fonts are already in the instsys because they need to be available when YaST2 starts, we would not need to waste extra space on the Media, these fonts could be copied from the instsys font directory to a font directory in the installed system during installation. For details see bug #156045. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If we want to copy the inst-sys fonts into the installed system this can be done in "x11_finish.ycp" IMHO. There you can find the following code:
if (x11_installed) { if ( Mode::update () ) { ... update case } else { //======================================== // Installation mode... //---------------------------------------- // make current X11 configuration available in installed system // copy /etc/X11/XF86Config from inst-sys to [/mnt]/etc/X11/xorg.conf // --- ...
ADD FONT COPY CODE HERE } }

We have plenty of files not owned by packages, so I don't see this as show stopper. BTW, there is already a stripped instsys. The CDs do not contain the fonts, so it won't be possible to view khmer release notes from the CD. But making this very feature depend on the medium sounds like overkill -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The CDs do not coolo> contain the fonts, so it won't be possible to view khmer coolo> release notes from the CD. Actually the CDs *do* contain the Khmer fonts. I just checked the instsys, the Khmer font is there. And also truetype fonts for Indian languages, for Arabic, and even Korean. Only truetype fonts for Japanese and Chinese are not there because they are huge. But even for Japanese we have a much better font in instsys than what is later available in the installed system. In the instsys we have b16.pcf.gz (= “Efont Biwidth:pixelsize=16”) and in the installed system we have 12x13ja.pcf.gz (one of the “Misc Fixed”) fonts. b16.pcf.gz is far superior to 12x13ja.pcf.gz for Japanese. It is a pity that we “throw away” good fonts which are already there on the CD instead of copying them into the installed system which would be so easy. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
