[Bug 621061] New: There's no clipboard outside local X.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621061 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621061#c0 Summary: There's no clipboard outside local X. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: gallaij@mediagnost.hu QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; hu-HU; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100626 SUSE/3.6.6-1.1 Firefox/3.6.6 Dear Team! I've reinstalled our application server from SuSE 10.0 to openSuSE 11.1. All goes well but there's a strange problem. We access this application server with Xming / Cygwin X / Xephyr / other X with -query option by XDMCP from our Windows / Linux boxes. On the old SuSE 10.0 box we can use the CTRL+C and CTRL+V combination it works well. Now, with openSuSE 11.1 the clipboard only works inside the started X we cannot copy and paste a selected part to the connected Windows or Linux application anymore. It seems there's no connection between the two clipboards. In Windows it clipboard works well I can use the copy&paste Windows to Windows apps and under the Xminged Linux is utilizing well its clipboard inside. I can copy and paste anything from a Linux program to a Linux program. But there's no connection from connected client's and the application server's clipboard and reverse. I've written to xorg community to fix this bug but thay said you need to look for it because it works well with other distros. ( I do not know, we use SuSE only ) Xming: Release: 6.9.0.31 FreeType2: 2.3.4 commandline: Xming :0 -clipboard -query 10.0.200.42 or X -ac -query 10.0.200.42 :1 Xephyr -ac -query 10.0.200.42 :1,2,3, etc There's no any relating error message in any logs. Clients: Windows XP sp3, Windows 2000 sp4, openSuSE 11.0, 11.1 Linux: openSuSE 11.1 - 2.6.27.45-0.1-pae ( all updates are installed ) Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance John Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Windows or Linux client 2. Start Xming / CygwinX / Xephyr / another X server with these options: -ac -query 10.0.200.42 :1 3. open a kwrite write something into the client area, select, copy ( CTRL+C ) and try to paste it into the connected ( Xminged, CygwinX-ed, Xephyer-ed, etc ) clients application ( CTRL+V ). It won't go. They all pastes the content of their clipboard it was before not the one we selected to copied. It is still working on SuSE 10.0, without a need to change anything. Actual Results: There seems no connection between the client's and server's clipboard Expected Results: It should copy from one and paste to another. No error so I cannot add more information at this time. This problem is very serious for us because our users uses this feature to copy content in Linux and paste it into Excel / Word under Windows. And now we stuck.... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this still reproducable with openSUSE 11.3?
I do not know 11.3, we haven't tried the new version yet and we would like to use 11.1. We are not satisfied with 11.2 because of its bugs so we do not want to use 11.3 in a production system either. 11.1 seems reliable. We registered licenses for SuSE 10.0 and we plan to register again if we found a reliable version again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

SuSE Linux 10.0 is out of maintenance sine a long time now. openSUSE 11.1 is low priority, that's why I'm asking. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm very sorry about OpenSuSE 11.1 low priority because we tested for a time and we found it reliable. But later it was discovered that CTRL+C and CTRL+V unusable. You know, if you change a production system that's a hard work. I have no chance to change again from 11.1 to 11.3 so it should be fixed if you would be so kind. Therefore I got 11.3 downloaded and I'm now burning so I'll try what you mailed me. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I know that SuSE is out of maintance.
SUSE Linux/openSUSE <= 11.0, not SUSE in general.

Well, for production systems it's recommended to use SLES/SLED instead of openSUSE due to a much longer maintenance time (5-7 years instead of 2 years). Then we could handle such requests via a L3 process for SLE11. And meanwhile you could still use SLE10.
Therefore I got 11.3 downloaded and I'm now burning so I'll try what you mailed me.
Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The clipboard simply vanished. The bug can be reproduced under Cígwin/X, Xming, Xephyr, and X with -query option. We would pay for SLED if we can find a well-working version since 10.0 SuSE We had licenses for that system because we loved it very much. It was working till March of 2010 at our side. And we decided to upgrade a new version. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Xephyr is a 'nested' Xserver running on top of another server (somehow like Xnest). Cygwin/X and Xming are 'stand alone' Xservers in the sense that they don't need another Xserver to run on top of. Of course both solutions run on top of Windows (either as a separate Window or 'seamless'). None of the nexted X solutions (Xephyr or Xnest) have ever been able to share cut buffers with the host server. This was considered the big drawback of such a solution. If Cygwin/X or Xming can share buffers with a Windows application I don't know. But this is not the problem we can solve either as we don't ship either. I'm not sure what you did to share cut buffers between a nested Xserver and the host server on SUSE 10.0. Also I don't think this works or has worked with any other distro as we don't do anything magically different than other distros. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is very disappointing that you say your customer is a liar! Great business. Congratulations. I think it is rather a lazy man...... Thanks for your help, guys! (In reply to comment #8)
