[Bug 215119] New: sound skips (snd_via82xx)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215119 Summary: sound skips (snd_via82xx) Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: javierllorente1@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Sound skips while playing mp3 files on amarok or kaffeine. I have tried packman's libxine and libxine (source install) but I still have the same problem. If I watch a movie using kaffeine, sound skips as well. However, if I play et, sound is okay. Changing the sound system settings doesn't help (disabling arts, increasing the sound buffer, etc). DMA mode is on (by default). This problem was found on openSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4 and hasn't been fixed on openSUSE 10.2 Beta 1. I don't have this problem on other Unix-like OSes. openSUSE 10.2 (i586) Beta1 KDE 3.5.5 "release 14" Linux 2.6.18.1-6-default alsa-1.0.13-11 alsa-devel-1.0.13-11 lsmod |grep snd snd_pcm_oss 53376 0 snd_mixer_oss 21248 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_seq 60272 0 snd_via82xx 32920 2 gameport 19464 1 snd_via82xx snd_ac97_codec 95648 1 snd_via82xx snd_ac97_bus 6400 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm 86916 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec snd_timer 27908 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd_page_alloc 14472 2 snd_via82xx,snd_pcm snd_mpu401_uart 13056 1 snd_via82xx snd_rawmidi 29824 1 snd_mpu401_uart snd_seq_device 12812 2 snd_seq,snd_rawmidi snd 61188 14 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq,snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device soundcore 13792 1 snd hwinfo --sound 27: PCI 11.5: 0401 Multimedia audio controller [Created at pci.281] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_1106_3059 Unique ID: Ssy1.cLC_1jKSuk4 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:11.5 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:11.5 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Biostar Microtech Int'l VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller" Vendor: pci 0x1106 "VIA Technologies, Inc." https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215119 ------- Comment #3 from javierllorente1@gmail.com 2006-11-26 14:47 MST ------- I have installed openSUSE 10.2 RC1 (fresh install) and the bug is still there. The kernel patch you mentioned is still broken. It's similar to #214931. In my case, sound doesn't repeat, it skips. When I say skip I mean something like a sound-1 sec mute-sound. Any suggestions? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215119 ------- Comment #5 from javierllorente1@gmail.com 2007-02-25 07:45 MST ------- I have installed openSUSE 10.3 Alpha 1 and I'm still having the same issues. Sound skips if I use Amarok or Kaffeine. I have tried libxine from Packman and libxine compiled from source. It doesn't skip if I play mp3s with RealPlayer though (this happens on 10.2 as well). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I'm suspecting that the sound skipping issue has something to do with libxine and/or alsa. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
