[Bug 225680] New: READE.SUSE in Package tpb needs updating
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225680 Summary: READE.SUSE in Package tpb needs updating Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Mobile Devices AssignedTo: behlert@novell.com ReportedBy: lenz@grimmer.com QAContact: qa@suse.de /usr/share/doc/packages/tpb/README.SUSE explains how to correct the device permissions on /dev/nram by using udev. However, the mentioned file name "/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules" does not exist in openSUSE 10.2, the file to modify is now called "/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225680 seife@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|ASSIGNED |RESOLVED Resolution| |FIXED ------- Comment #1 from seife@novell.com 2006-12-04 08:56 MST ------- I submitted a new package with the following Text in README.SUSE: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The nvram module is normally not loaded automatically on startup. The easiest way to achieve the loading is to add "nvram" to the variable MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT in /etc/sysconfig/kernel. To be able to access the /dev/nvram device as a normal user, you have to adjust the permissions on it. Since this permissions are set by udev, you cannot just chmod it but have to alter the line for nvram in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules from KERNEL=="nvram", GROUP="kmem", MODE="600" to KERNEL=="nvram", GROUP="kmem", MODE="644" if you want to restrict access to trusted users, you can also add a system group "thinkpad", add all users you want to be able to use tpb to it and change the above line to KERNEL=="nvram", GROUP="thinkpad", MODE="640" You can also copy the file 51-nvram.rules from this directory to /etc/udev/rules.d/ to give all users access to /dev/nvram. To start tpb automatically when logging into your KDE session, just place a symlink in your .kde/Autostart directory with the command ln -s /usr/bin/tpb ~/.kde/Autostart/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- This also corrects the syntax for the udev rules and moves from 00-nvram to 51-nvram (so that they come after the 50-default rules, which now contain a nvram rule, they did not in 10.1). Thanks for reporting. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
