I've tried these days a lot of stuff to S2ram, but didn't finish all the schemes, I'll try to provide more data these evening. Meanwhile: - so I think it behaved like this because my machine wasn't on the white list (stupid me..) - trying to suspend with the -f parameter it "does something" (for instance, with pm-suspend and having the -f parameter in /etc/pm/config.d/, the log shows that it does all the hooks and then it ends with + /usr/sbin/s2ram -f) and then it hangs (in stead of entering the sleep mode); the only thing I can do is holding the power off button for 5 seconds to turn it off. This behavior is similar to the things I get while trying to hibernate https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398269 but there I managed to make a ...workaround (changing the /etc/suspend.conf file to include the option 'shutdown method = shutdown'). So I think the things that are not well supported for my machine might not be in the suspend modules. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot judge yet. The bad thing is: there is no "shutdown" mode for s2ram (since the acpi method is actually needed to put the machine to sleep ;-) Did you already try without the nvidia module? It might interere with suspend (even though it did not make a difference with s2disk - it might with s2ram). What are those modules for: vmsync 10016 0 vmmemctl 14104 0 vmblock 20516 3 vmware? I don't know about the modules... I didn't specifically install vmware, but I made every try from a minimal system (init=/bin/bash), so only with the minimum modules loaded (also no nvidia). The results are the same. After running s2ram -f (+a variation) I get: switching from VT1 to VT1 (then 1 or 2 lines that depend on the variation) fbcon fb0 state 1 then it hangs (power led still on, wireless led goes off, and extra: some stuff - small lines - start to appear and dissapear very fast on the screen; didn't get that form suspending from a "normal" system, from the menu) If I'm booting also without a framebuffer, before it hangs I see: Freezing userspace processes (elapsed 0.00 seconds) done. Freezing remaining freezable tasks (elapsed 0.00 seconds) done. So, I've found out that 1. the 2 problems are quite related (the suspend to ram and disk) 2. they actually... work... but after about 5 minutes! (I've let my laptop suspending to ram for about 5 minutes with the fan screaming loud and it finally suspended); well, it didn't come back, but I only gave it the -f option so this I suppose it's something fixable. I am half-newb so I don't understand all of the stuff here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/139045 so there are some patches and some are going upstream in the kernel. After my motherboard crashed and was changed, my laptop identifier changed from TECRA M4 to 000000. So suspend didn't work. I wasn't the only one (I found another guy with a Toshiba TECRA M4 that had the same problem and couldn't suspend) to have 000000, and some one else had “Portable PC” in the ID string. So the following must be added: { .ident = "000000", .matches = { DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "TOSHIBA"), DMI_MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "000000"), }, }, { .ident = "Portable PC", .matches = { DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "TOSHIBA"), DMI_MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "Portable PC"), }, }, I've recompiled “ata_piix”, adding the workaround for those 2 (strings for toshiba laptops that need the workaround after quiting the service) and it works. I'll attach the patch (for the latest beta5.2). 2. For my Toshiba TECRA M4, suspend doesn't always resume. Sometimes it does, sometimes (random?) I get only a blinking cursor (like “_”) in the upper left corner. The argument that worked best (always resumed well) with 11.1beta5.2 was “-f -s”. "-f -s" works excelent, but with the 180.06 Nvidia driver (wich is in beta, and after the RC was released poses some problems when X starts - but everything works well) before (latest stable nvidia and before) I didn't really find a combination that always worked... (and I don't remember "-f -s" ever working then...)
