I've replaced them and performed a total rebuild of the array with some tests along the way. Test 1 - created a RAID 5 with 520GB of the capacity available. Manually partition the array with parted. Install Windows. Install openSUSE and the installation is successful. Yast install logs are YaST.onedisk.tgz in the archive. Test 2 - Created a RAID 5 with the remaining space. Manually partitioned a GPT partition setup on the array and added /home to one of the partitions on this array. Yast install logs are YaST.twodisk.tgz in the archive. After the first phase of installation, the system reboots and hangs with the following mdadm: /dev/md126 is already in use. On OS_12.2 I run already sometimes into this problem, although the system is only on OS_12.2 for about a day. At the moment when it happens, the system goes into the mode during initializing that one has to the the root password to be able to enter "<ctrl> - D" or just type reboot. The second time the raid is working fine. For me this is fine to execute, but the same machine is just by my children and they will be stuck, especially when I'm not at home.... Just after the boot started, after the boot login screen, that states the mdadm failed for /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc, /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1. # mdadm -V mdadm - v3.2.5 - 18th May 2012 I've only 1 raid. # uname -a Linux selene 3.4.6-2.10-default Just is just by heart when more details are appreciated I can look it up. I fixed a number of issues and I believe the updated package is now available. If would help if people could install all available updates and see if the problems persist. If they do, please provide (or re-provide) details. The version of mdadm (reported by "rpm -q mdadm" that is buggy is mdadm-3.2.5-3.4.1 The version that works better is mdadm-3.2.5-3.7.1 though there is another update pending which isn't released yet, but the issues it addresses don't seem to be present in any for the above descriptions. I don't know exactly why the mdadm.conf in comment #0 doesn't work, but it is almost certainly related to it containing "/dev/md126" as a device name. Numbers like that can be allocated automatically and if allocated to the wrong thing it can cause conflicts and confusion. One of the fixes in the new mdadm is that names like that that are listed in mdadm.conf will never be used automatically. Another fix is to avoid using names like that :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately the current release breaks on IMSM for another reason. A fix for that is queued and should be out shortly (I don't know when). To test you could: 1/ install the latest mdadm from openSUSE:12.2:Updates 2/ edit /lib/mkinitrd/scripts/setup-md.sh Find the line: eval echo \"\$md_conf_$md\" >> $tmp_mnt/etc/mdadm.conf Near the end. Change it to: eval echo -e \"\$md_conf_$md\" >> $tmp_mnt/etc/mdadm.conf i.e. add '-e'. If it already has '-e' then it is the correct version. 3/ run mkinitrd 4/ reboot and please report results. 5/ Check the mdadm.conf in the initrd to ensure it looks correct. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There was an error generating the initrd (1) The previous line looked like this echo -e "${md_conf["$md"]}" >> $tmp_mnt/etc/mdadm.conf it generated this in the initrd mdadm.conf AUTO -all ARRAY /dev/md/imsm0 metadata=imsm UUID=93fb0f57:f21188ff:51e6f81e:3890f066 ARRAY /dev/md/system container=/dev/md/imsm0 member=0 UUID=94bbd8df:9bce432a:fa157cde:798e8240 copying and pasting the line mentioned above only had "AUTO -all" in the initrd's mdadm.conf. I've rebooted successfully with the initrd created from the mdadm-3.2.5-3.17.1.x86_64 code. It also turns out the grub error was another issue (likely from the couple of mkinitrd attempts) as grub failed to load after the reboot. I've had to boot to a rescue environment and force a grub2-install to recover that part too. To summarise updated mdadm to 3.2.5-3.17.1 checked initrd, looked ok applied suggested patch ran mkinitrd checked initrd, looked empty reverted patch ran mkinitrd checked initrd, looked ok rebooted grub failed booted to rescue environment reinstalled grub (grub2-install /dev/md... --force) rebooted successfully logged in. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So I'll close this bug as 'resolved'. If 'grub' is still causing problems that would be a separate issue and you should open a separate bug if you want to pursue it. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
