[Bug 640545] New: YaST2 doesn't correctly set default printer
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640545 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640545#c0 Summary: YaST2 doesn't correctly set default printer Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: psychonaut@nothingisreal.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.13) Gecko/20100914 SUSE/2.0.8-23.1 SeaMonkey/2.0.8 YaST doesn't correctly set the default printer. I have two printers configured in YaST2, lj1022nw (the default) and mfc8460n. I edited mfc8460n and set it as the default. On the main Printer Configurations dialog the Default column is blank for lj1022nw and "Yes" for mfc8460n. However, the command line shows the following: $ lpstat -v device for lj1022nw: socket://10.0.40.30:9100 device for mfc8460n: smb://inquira/duran.inquira.com/mfc8460n $ lpstat -d system default destination: lj1022nw This situation persists even after a reboot. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Possibly this is another manifestation of Bug 223206. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I see from the first link that now each user can configure his own default print queue in ~/.cups/lpoptions. Does openSUSE 11.3 provide some standard GUI way for users to set this queue, or should I file a feature request for same? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640545 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=640545#c3 --- Comment #3 from Johannes Meixner <jsmeix@novell.com> 2010-09-21 12:21:12 UTC --- The particular printing dialogs in particular applications and the general printing dialogs for the Gnome and KDE desktops should provide some kind of "save" functionality. But sometimes it is completely missing or sometimes you can only save settings for a queue but not a default queue. For example I tried out Gimp. I have the Gutenprint printer driver package installed which provides an additional print dialog for Gimp via the gutenprint-gimpplugin RPM. Gimp's own print dialog does not provide a "save" functionality (at least on first glance I didn't find one). In contrast Gutenprint's additional print dialog for Gimp provides both "print and save settings" and "save settings" and a somewhat uncommon kind of "default queue" setting: Via "setup printer" one can select the queue which is used by Gutenprint's additional print dialog for Gimp so that this results a default queue setting only for Gutenprint's additional print dialog. I.e. it depends on the particular printing dialog which functionality is available. Therefore if a particular functionality is missing, separated enhancement requests for each particular printing dialog would be needed. Of course a "Common Printing Dialog" for all applications could solve the mess but unfortunately its development is currently stuck, see http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/plan-comp... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
