I guess your device is no standard "HD audio" but just a CM8788 sound card, which is supported by snd-virtuoso driver. Doesn't it appear on 11.2 Factory kernel? The latter is no Intel-compatible HD-audio device that snd-hda-intel supports. The latter should be supported by snd-oxygen driver (not snd-virtuoso as long as I check the PCI ID). It might be not well supported on 2.6.29, though. You can try alsa-driver-kmp on OBS multimedia:audio:KMP repo. Install only the alsa-driver-kmp-$FLAVOR package matching with your running kernel. The result will be same for the time being, though. Also, please write up test results on bugzilla instead of packing into a compressed OOo file. It's a good way to hide something, but not so good for bugzilla reports :) So, now the problem is only about Amarok? Which backend are you using, and how is it set up? BTW, YaST still won't support this device because it's not registered in its database. After updating via custom script (I probably also did a 'zypper dup' as well: Amorak will plays mp3 - OK - good news After adding 'cdrom' to my 'user' ights (plus setting the DVD to sr0 using KDE personnel setting) I could opened a DVD with Kaffeine. This should not be required!!!! Kaffeine opened DVD but it doesn't work well. For example, once we stopped a DVD and it never re started. Note really a new problem but very bad news just the same!!!! VLC wasn't much better. This problems are most a exactly related to v11.2 however. Ah the good old days... FYI, I also played around with -HelixPlayer-11.0.0.4052-20080318.i586 and -RealPlayer11GOLD Using HelixPlayer or RealPlayer - image comes across with both Konqueror and Firefox, but there is no sound. What we need at this very beginning stage is to get the sound driver working in any form. So, as a primary test, please test with aplay, arecord and speaker-test programs. Once after we confirm they work fine, we can test other applications. The problem of mplayer and VLC may be application errors and likely irrelervant if aplay works. The problem of device permission has nothing to do with this bug at all. So, let's make the bug clear and don't pollute / mislead. Tests with aplay is easy. Try like aplay -Ddefault:2 -vv some-your-wav-file.wav If pulseaudio is involved with this default setup, try like aplay -Dplughw:2 -vv somefile.wav (Here I suppose the device #2 corresponding to Xonar. Check /proc/asound/cards.) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I watched 3/4 off a "Mamma Mia DVD" (I visited Packman Factory first) before the sound died using Kaffeine. I don't think the problem of kaffeine is related with this sound hardware. How did the sound die? Any other critical problems specific to the sound driver? Otherwise, let's close the bug. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Any other critical problems specific to the sound driver?
Nothing critical -except the sound isn't very loud (compared to my M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 card which cost half as much and uses the the driver below: 02:07.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02) and speakers...) Ok to close this bug Question, SVP I have several machines running HD4850 video cards which use "Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc HD48x0 audio" I read on the opensuse-kernel list that the Linux 2.6.32 kernel will feature kernel mode-setting support for ATI R600/700 graphics processors as well as the DRM support for allowing 3D acceleration. Any idea if the Linux 2.6.32 kernel offer any advantages in my case? (i.e. HD4850 video cards which use "Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc HD48x0 audio" ) If any one needs someone to help test - please let me know. I am already running Linux a custom 2.6.30.2-1-pae kernel on 11.1 with no problems and as I said I have several machines running HD4850 video cards.... It's better to post the question to opensuse-factory or opensuse-kernel ML. 2.6.31 SUSE kernel, at least, doesn't enable radeon KMS because it's still unstable. 2.6.32 is supposed to work better, but you need to test by yourself. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
