[Bug 1043221] New: sddm erase the whole content of ~/.Xauthority
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1043221 Bug ID: 1043221 Summary: sddm erase the whole content of ~/.Xauthority Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: comes@naic.edu QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I tested this bug on 42.2 and upcoming 42.3. I connect from PC2 to PC1 with ssh -X. Once I'm connected the command xauth list contains: PC1/unix:10 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 <32 char hex string> I can therefore start an xterm on PC1 and the window opens on PC2 On PC1 I start a vncsession with: vncserver :1 xauth list contains: PC1/unix:1 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 <32 char hex string> I can therefore start an xterm and the window opens in the vncsession I login on PC1 using sddm as display manager. Now xauth list ONLY contains: PC1/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 <32 char hex string> sddm has erased all the others MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1. On the ssh session started at the beginning I cannot start anymore an xterm: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. xterm: Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0 The same goes for the vncsession that has become useless. Until this bug is fixed I'm reverting back to kdm. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #4 from Fabian Vogt
I tested the 42.2 version and it fixes the issue. However there is a small glitch. After I restarted the display manager, the default session changed from plasma to gnome.
If you installed both GNOME and KDE Plasma and did not explicitly set a default, it's picked randomly by update-alternatives.
And while I'm at it, what about bug 1021774?
