[Bug 438183] New: [artwork] OOo 3.0: "corrupted" splash screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=438183 Summary: [artwork] OOo 3.0: "corrupted" splash screen Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: kyu@novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Depends on: 438173 Found By: --- Original OOo3.0 has nice, calm, colorful splashscreen. Opensuse does not have it. Opensuse does not have even its own (green) splashscreen. Opensuse has dark, suicidal, steel-like splashscreen. Please, keep the original one, or if it is so ugly for someone (not for me), provide green variation of it. This is opensuse, not gentoo -- so do not reinvent the brand color or theme. I personally opt for keeping the original one: a) as showing respect for _someone else_ work b) the system is opensuse, it is green, but openoffice is not system, so it is good to follow the suite theme, not the system one -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

He may be referring to the splash screen bug you fixed a while ago that turned the original splash into a gray, cold-looking alternative. ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am not sure if you mean that the splash is distorted, or if you are just unhappy about the artwork ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But to be exact, it has nothing to do with being happy/unhappy. The opensuse decided to use green as the brand color. So either do not touch original artwork or use the brand theme. It is really odd having opensuse with some gentoo OpenOffice splashscreen in it. Not only UI should be uniform, but also the artwork. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If the biggest change in opensuse-OOo is the splash screen I would suggest leaving it alone -- good manners matter. It is showing the respect for somebody's work -- otherwise it looks pretty, ekhem, move :-) I guess you follow my thought. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=438183 User pmladek@novell.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=438183#c6 Petr Mladek <pmladek@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |pmladek@novell.com Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX --- Comment #6 from Petr Mladek <pmladek@novell.com> 2008-10-24 09:02:56 MDT --- I see two problems here. First, the older splash mentioned the version 2.x. We do not have an updated picture for OOo-3.0 and I am not sure if we want to spend resources on it. Note that the package in the Build Service project is a bit less supported than the official package distributed with openSUSE-10.3. Second, the picture is included in the main package on these older distributions. It cannot be reused easily. The upstream branding is not packaged at all. The first problem will be solved in openSUSE-11.1. We will start to use there non-versioned pictures, so they will be usable also with newer OOo-versions. The second problem has been solved in openSUSE-11.0. We split there the branding into separate packages. They can be used for any compatible newer OOo version. Also it is possible to select between the openSUSE and the upstream branding. You might try to force installation of the upstream branding that is available for openSUSE-11.0 at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/openSUSE_11... or http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/openSUSE_11... Alternatively, you might install the two need files from older packages. You just need to replace: /usr/lib/ooo3/program/about.bmp /usr/lib/ooo3/program/intro.bmp I am sorry, I am afraid that we do not want to fix the packages for openSUSE-10.3 and 10.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Some thoughts though -- I assumed the splashscreen for OOO is the same for all opensuse versions, so it is also steel-suicidal for Opensuse 11.0 and 11.1. If it is fixed for newer versions of Opensuse -- that's all I asked for. Thank you for the path to splashscreen, I will change it right away. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
