http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555611 Summary: Palm Handheld immediately crashes after plugin Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Hotplug AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: juergen@spitzmueller.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- --- Comment #0 from Jürgen Spitzmüller <juergen@spitzmueller.org> 2009-11-15 09:44:54 UTC --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 After upgrading from openSuse 11.1 to 11.2 on my x86_64 PC, my Palm TX device permanently crashes and reboots as soon as I connect it via USB. The device starts up, then crashes and reboots again, until I pull the plug. After disconnetion from the PC, the device starts up fine. It also does not crash when connecting to my laptop, which still runs 11.1. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect the Palm device with the PC via USB 2. Observe how it reboots and reboots and reboots 3. Pull the plug and see that rebooting finally succeeds -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555611 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555611#c3 --- Comment #3 from Jürgen Spitzmüller <juergen@spitzmueller.org> 2010-01-04 11:17:55 UTC --- I am pretty sure the cable is good. The problem immediately occurred after the upgrade from openSuse 11.1 to 11.2. On my laptop (32bit), the device continued to work until I upgraded the laptop as well from 11.1 to 11.2. The device is plugged into the machine's USB ports (I do not have an external hub). The crash is 100% reproducable on all my machines with openSuse 11.2 (desktop, 64bit and laptop, 32bit). Here is an excerpt of the Kernel log while the device is plugged in; this is from the 64bit desktop: 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 New USB device found, idVendor=0830, idProduct=0061 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=5 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 Product: Palm Handheld 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 Manufacturer: Palm, Inc. 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 SerialNumber: PN70M387V049 2010-01-04 12:09:40 usb 2-1 configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usbcore registered new interface driver usbserial 2010-01-04 12:09:41 USB Serial support registered for generic 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usbcore registered new interface driver usbserial_generic 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usbserial USB Serial Driver core 2010-01-04 12:09:41 USB Serial support registered for Handspring Visor / Palm OS 2010-01-04 12:09:41 USB Serial support registered for Sony Clie 3.5 2010-01-04 12:09:41 USB Serial support registered for Sony Clie 5.0 2010-01-04 12:09:41 visor 2-1 .0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usb 2-1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usb 2-1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1 2010-01-04 12:09:41 usbcore registered new interface driver visor 2010-01-04 12:09:41 visor USB HandSpring Visor / Palm OS driver 2010-01-04 12:09:43 usb 2-1 USB disconnect, address 2 2010-01-04 12:09:43 visor ttyUSB0 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0 2010-01-04 12:09:43 visor ttyUSB1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1 2010-01-04 12:09:43 visor 2-1 .0: device disconnected 2010-01-04 12:09:43 visor 2-1 .0: device disconnected 2010-01-04 12:10:02 usb 2-1 new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 New USB device found, idVendor=0830, idProduct=0061 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=5 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 Product: Palm Handheld 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 Manufacturer: Palm, Inc. 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 SerialNumber: PN70M387V049 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice 2010-01-04 12:10:03 visor 2-1 .0: Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter detected 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB0 2010-01-04 12:10:03 usb 2-1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1 2010-01-04 12:10:04 usb 2-1 USB disconnect, address 3 2010-01-04 12:10:04 visor ttyUSB0 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0 2010-01-04 12:10:04 visor ttyUSB1 Handspring Visor / Palm OS converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1 2010-01-04 12:10:04 visor 2-1 .0: device disconnected -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I restart D-BUS (rcdbus start), the device still is well and alive However, if I then restart the network (rcnetwork restart), the device immediately crashes. This is independend on whether I use ifup or the NetworkManager (and stopping the network alone also does not stop the PDA from crashing). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
