[Bug 391841] New: A small report about my upgraded from 10.3 to 11.0 Beta 3
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=391841 Summary: A small report about my upgraded from 10.3 to 11.0 Beta 3 Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: edwin@cyclades-info.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Hi, Being an experienced Linux user, I decided to jump on the test train for 11.0 and updated from 10.3 to 11.0 Beta 3. This is not really a bug report, but just a small report on what happened (or not). My system is a laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro M70), which has a Windows XP partition as well. The Linux partition is set to be default in grub. Opensuse 10.3 was fully patched (Packman, ATI, etc) and up-to-date. FASE 1: configuring the update ============================== During the update, there were a lot of package problems, that I had to solve by hand. I did my best to answer them all in the right way, but there were soooo many, that I can't be sure what I exactly did. Anyway, after a while, all the problems were solved and the update could begin. I let it run by itself and went out. Fase 2: running the update ========================== When I came back, the update had finished. Surprisingly, XP was on! I rebooted and saw that grub had set the Windows partition to be the default. I can't recall the following order as it was in 10.3, but it seemed to have changed position in the list. Fase 3: starting opensuse 11.0 ============================== I chose to start opensuse 11.0 and got the login screen. So far so good! I logged in and to my surprise (and fear1) it started FVWM instead of KDE4 0which I had expected). So, what went wrong??? Fase 4: getting KDE4 to work ============================ KDE4 was not (properly) installed! Trying to install kdebase4 or kdelibs4 or so, prompted me that it couldn't be installed because libIlmInf.so.6 was missing. I then tried to install the OpenEXR package (that contains libIlmImf.so.6), but had to ignore some dependencies about kdebase3 and others to get it installed. After this, I could install the KDE4 packages and uninstall KDE3. And now it works! Sadly enough, all my KDE3 settings are not there anymore... As stated before, this is just an update report. I have not taken notes on which problems occured exactly, but still hope that the developers can use it.
