[Bug 827189] New: AutoYaST stops during initial boot when installed using a serial connection
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=827189 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=827189#c0 Summary: AutoYaST stops during initial boot when installed using a serial connection Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: AutoYaST AssignedTo: fehr@suse.com ReportedBy: eruby@knowledgematters.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 I'm reporting this because it might be related to the serial install problems identified and worked-around (but not fixed) in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823224 and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825728. When installing over serial, the install hangs right after "Loading Installation System (6/6) (49 kB) - 100%". If I hit the enter key the install responds with the error message "stty: standard input: unable to perform all requested operations" and then continues with the install. The screen output looks like this: Loading Installation System (6/6) (49 kB) - 100% stty: standard input: unable to perform all requested operations starting dbus...Unknown username "polkitd" in message bus configuration file Unknown username "polkitd" in message bus configuration file ok starting klogd... ok rcnscd: no such service nscd starting yast... Like I said, I'm reporting this because it might be related to the other stty issues reported in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823224 and https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825728. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start a serial install with AutoYast 2. Wait for it to hang. 3. See the error message. Look quick, because the screen is erased after 2-3 seconds. Actual Results: Got an stty error message indicating that something failed. Expected Results: No failure message. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But if your serial line is connected to a machine which also has a normal console: can you switch to console 9 when it hangs and use 'ps' and possibly 'strace -p' to find out where exactly it stops? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
