YaST backup would have to download them first and then create a backup archive. What YaST currently does is: * Store list of repositories used * Store list of installed RPMs * Store changed files * Store files that don't belong to any RPM Restoring that archive with YaST restore is similar * Restore list of repositories * Install RPMs from them * Restore changed files * Restore the other (data) files. I'm afraid that YaST backup is not a cloning tool. That's what we have AutoYaST for. Internet-less clients /installation/ should rather use AutoYaST with some local source (Backup just can't mirror the sources). I'll check whether backup could be easily persuadable to backup all the RPMs (the whole system), not only changed files. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That being the case, for those at least, Yast does have local access, at least at the time it is installing them. So that would be a good time to add it to the list backup handles. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Programmer <casualprogrammer@yahoo.com> 2008-01-15 04:06:53 MST --- Not sure if I understand this correctly, as far as I can see yast2 backup backs up files and rpms that have changed. But changed from which original state ? If this was based on the install DVD, I assume I could restore a system from scratch using the install DVD and the backup set ( yast2 backup also creates an auto installation profile )? If my assumption is correct, then there wouldn't necessarily ( for me ) remain a reason to backup all updated rpms. As this would also involve getting rid of superseded rpms, which is way beyond what I want to do in terms of housekeeping. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
