[Bug 1137750] New: Touchpad of Lenovo Laptop no longer working
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1137750 Bug ID: 1137750 Summary: Touchpad of Lenovo Laptop no longer working Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: mantel@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After upgrading a Lenovo Laptop from 42.3 to 15.1, the touchpad is no longer working. It is not a total failure, I can still move the mouse cursor vertically, but no horizontal movement is possible any longer and also clicking any button is ignored. Deactivating and re-activating does not make a difference. I can workaround this issue by using an external USB mouse. But with this I observed even another issue: If the mouse is plugged in during boot, the system will freeze completely. I will attach a picture where the halt happens. Fun fact: This only happens on a cold start. Rebooting the system succeeds even with the mouse plugged in. All other important stuff is working fine: WLAN, sound, multimedia, suspend to RAM. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For the time being, do you have xf86-input-synaptics installed? If not, give it a try.
Bingo! But it was the other way around: xf86-input-synaptics (which seems to be obsolete), was installed. So I just removed the configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-synaptics.conf and now it works. Maybe the whole issue was caused because this was an update. Not sure if the driver would also have been installed by a fresh installation. So feel free to resolve this one as FIXED, WORKSFORME or even INVALID. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

In principal synaptics input driver should still work, but some desktops still appear to mess it up although no longer really support it - like GNOME. Which desktop are you using?
Ah, just for completeness: I'm using KDE. But the touchpad already fails before even logging in. It's "funny" to see that you can move the mouse pointer vertically, but not horizontally. And buttons also do not work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
