I guess it's installation related.

The logs do not seem to be complete. Do still have that system? We need whole /var/log/YaST2 directory or you can use save_y2logs tool. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No chance. Your user interface is a far cry from something userfriendly, btw. I added two new partitions (sda12 and sda13) since my openSuSE crash. Please note the values for new partition #13 (all zeros). That was exactly the same when I tried to install 12.1 only partition #11 was the last partition with all zero values. "fdisk" can't create new partitions and _neither_can_the_yast_partitioner_. I created the new partitions using "cfdisk". I don't know whether that helps, but before you go on a long bug-chase with lacking information I'd rather add it. The first log you've originally attached is from the installation, but it is not complete. The new log files are from the original 11.4 system, I assume. Is that right, that your original system remained untouched? Yes, my original system is on sda5 (/), sda6 (/home) and sda7 (swap). It remained whole, since I tried to install to newly created sda10 (/) and sda11 (/home) with the old swap. Error message was that popup, saying "Yast module 'inst_finish' has failed" with an additional message saying somthing like "you might want to file a bug report". I'll look tonight or during the weekend whether I confounded those directories, but I'm quite sure I didn't. Reason: Then 11.4 /var/log/YaST2 directory contains 7 or 8 zipped yast2log1.gz files and many more others. But I uploaded only about 4 MB. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would be useful if you managed to reproduce the bug - start the live installation again. And when the but appears, tar up /var/log/YaST2 and attach it here (without rebooting the machine) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

AFAIR I started the install from the GRUB-splash screen, not from a fully booted system. I can do it your way, boot first and also establish an internet connection before I try to install from a running 12.1. An alternative would be doing it again from GRUB, after the crash getting a console, tar, mount the old system, save the tarball there and later boot 11.4 to upload the results. That made me suspicious. So in the meantime I prepared a second USB-stick -- and installed successfully with exactly the same procedure. I'm honestly sorry, but I suppose it is all due to a faulty USB-stick (which never before caused any trouble). Now that should set one to think twice before complying with the summons to file a bug report. Again, I'm sorry to have caused unnecessary work and apologize to all involved.
