Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: zsu@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: mfabian@novell.com How to reproduce the bug: 1. The system locale reported by locale command is en_US.UTF-8 instead of zh_CN.UTF-8. Result of command "lsof |grep ttf": fvwm2 3430 mem /mounts/instsys2/usr/share/fonts/truetype/FZSongTi.ttf y2base 3491 mem /mounts/instsys/usr/share/fonts/truetype/DejaVuSans.ttf y2base 3491 mem /mounts/instsys/usr/share/fonts/truetype/DejaVuSans-Bold.ttf y2base 3491 mem /mounts/instsys2/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ipag.ttf Shows that YaST didn't use correct Chinese font. The screenshot will be attached. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The Japanese font IPAGothic is used. The correct Chinese font FZSongTi is available in /usr/share/fonts/truetype and LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 fc-match sans correctly matches FZSongTi. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #3 from mfabian@novell.com 2006-10-30 06:56 MST ------- Zhe Su> The system locale reported by locale command is en_US.UTF-8 Zhe Su> instead of zh_CN.UTF-8. Most likely this doesn't matter, yast2 is running in zh_CN.UTF-8 locale. Can be seen with less /proc/<pid of y2base>/environ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #5 from mfabian@novell.com 2006-10-30 08:13 MST ------- Seems to be a qt3 bug which must have been introduced after SuSE 10.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #6 from mfabian@novell.com 2006-10-30 08:22 MST ------- A quick test which seems to prove that it is a qt3 bug: - Use a system where both ipag.ttf (from IPAGothic.rpm) and FZSongTi.ttf (from ttf-founder-simplified.rpm) are installed. - start qtconfig in simplified Chinese locale: LC_ALL=zh_CN.UTF-8 /usr/lib/qt3/bin/qtconfig - select the font tab in qtconfig and choose the font "sans serif". - paste the Chinese characters 直接 into the sample text. If you try this on SuSE 10.1, the Chinese font FZSongTi will be used. If you try on SuSE 10.2beta1, the Japanese font IPAGothic will be used. The difference is easy to see even if you don't know any Chinese because IPAGothic is a sans-serif font (constant line width) and FZSongTi is a serif font (variable line width and serifs). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #7 from zsu@novell.com 2006-10-31 00:14 MST ------- However, it seems that yast uses correct font during the second stage installation. All characters are displayed. y2base opens both newunifont and FZSongTi. I don't know which font is used here. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #8 from mfabian@novell.com 2006-10-31 04:56 MST ------- Could it be that during the second stage of the installation, no Japanese fonts like IPAGothic or Sazanami Gothic are installed? Then it might work accidentally because Qt3 cannot make this mistake then. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=216183 ------- Comment #10 from mfabian@novell.com 2006-10-31 07:53 MST ------- I just verified that this works. I copied "libqt-mt.so.3.3.7" from Dirk's new package to /tmp in the test machine. Then: rm /usr/lib (was a link to /mounts/instsys/usr/lib) mkdir /tmp/lib cd /tmp/lib adddir /mounts/instsys/usr/lib . rm qt3 mkdir qt3 cd qt3 adddir /mounts/instsys/usr/lib/qt3 . rm lib64 mkdir lib64 cd lib64 adddir /mounts/intsys/usr/lib/qt3/lib64 . rm libqt-mt.so.3.3.7 cp /tmp/libqt-mt.so.3.3.7 . Now start another instance of YaST2: cd /usr/lib/YaST2/startup ./YaST2.First-Stage The new instance of YaST2 also pops up on the virtual console 7 just over the already existing instance of YaST2. The Chinese fonts in this newly started instance of YaST2 look OK. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
