[Bug 583668] New: OOo 3.2 does not open files on cifs
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668#c0 Summary: OOo 3.2 does not open files on cifs Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: werner.flamme@ufz.de QAContact: cwei@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.0) Gecko/20100115 SUSE/3.6.0-1.2 Firefox/3.6 Hi, interesting effect: I updated my OOo 3.1 from Installation Source to OOo 3.2 from the OOo-STABLE repo. From that moment on, I could not open any file that is on a network share - just the info box "crashed file has to be restored" appears, but no file is shown in the list, and when clicking OK, OOo is gone. But lucky me - I copied a file onto my local disk and it opens fine! So, it's not the file itself, it must be the file system. Since most of my files are in the network and can be accessed via cifs only, I have to stick to OOo 3.1 as long as this behaviour isn't fixed. I have this behaviour on 3.2.0.7 as well as 3.2.0.5 - just didn't report it then. Regards, Werner Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. update OOo from 3.1 to 3.2 2. open a file from a CIFS share 3. OOo is gone Actual Results: Cannot open files that are located on CIFS shares with OOo 3.2. They open fine with OOo 3.1, and they open fine with 3.2 when they are on a local disk (with XFS, in this case) Expected Results: The files should open independent from the filesystem they are stored upon. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668#c2 --- Comment #2 from Werner Flamme <werner.flamme@ufz.de> 2010-03-01 09:00:15 UTC --- It's a Solaris Server with Samba. We run two of those in the company. I'm just wondering, because everything is fine with OOo 3.1, so for me the cause is the update to 3.2. http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668#c4 --- Comment #4 from Werner Flamme <werner.flamme@ufz.de> 2010-04-01 16:10:09 UTC --- Hi, sorry, I was on holidays for 2 weeks and since I'm back I try to get a backtrace. It does not work. When I start OOo from the gdb command line, I can open the document on the CIFS share. No problem, just as it was before. When I try to lauch OOo via Konqueror ("open with..."), I still get the crash. At least in the morning. Sometimes when I want to leave and open the file later a day, I may have success. But not always. In this case, the file appears in the "recently used dosuments" list - and when I click there, OOo crashes again. Hm. I do not like this - an error that can't be reproduced. And maybe that location has some random string each time the share is accessed? Just a wild guess. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583668#c6 --- Comment #6 from Werner Flamme <werner.flamme@ufz.de> 2010-06-04 08:56:35 UTC --- I found a workaround on <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477983>: after adding nobrl to the mount options, I can open all the files I could not open before. So it seems to be a problem of communication between the samba fileserver (running on Solaris 10) and the cifs client and not a problem of OpenOffice.org. Ah, it's nice to blame it on Slowlaris :-) @Fridrich: I could not see that a Recently used file points to a wrong target. The cifs that gives/gave me the problems is always mounted on ~/Documents/DFS (since it is a DFS distributed by our windows domain servers and provided by (at least) two file servers both running Samba on Solaris 10). Can you imagine that there is a company providing access to shared disks or directories for about 1500 Windows user plus about 100 Linux user? And can you imagine that for those few Linuxers there is no NFS, because of the additional management work? I do not see this as weird but as common and wide spread solution - YMMV, of course. And "resolved as WORKSFORME" is not really a solution for a problem, is it? In the meantime (2 and a half years) there are problems with accessing DFS anyway, plus the file servers changed, but we still are on the safe side by adding "nobrl" to the mount options.
