[Bug 464795] New: OpenOffice.org won't start / only displays splash screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=464795 Summary: OpenOffice.org won't start / only displays splash screen Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jbrockmeier@novell.com QAContact: kyu@novell.com Found By: Other OpenOffice.org has suddenly stopped working -- doesn't seem to be related to any updates. If I start any of the components, OO.org will display the splash screen and then exit. If I start ooffice alone, it will display the dialog with the application icons, but if I try to start Impress, Writer, or Calc or even help, it will exit. Tried starting with a fresh profile (moved .ooo3 to .oldooo3) and no help there either -- still crashes. I've run a strace (strace -f ooffice &> ooo.log) and attached the logfile. Please let me know if I can provide any additional info. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This library might be broken from some strange reasons. This file is part of the package OpenOffice_org-libs-core. Could you please try to reinstall it? If it does not help, could you please verify the system once again with: rpm -V `rpm -qa | grep OpenOffice_org` If "rpm -V" does not longer show any problem, could you please try to uninstall the package OpenOffice_org-gnome? There are some strange GNOME-related messages in the gdb log. I am not sure if they might cause such a problem but... Finally, could you please try to remove the packages with OOo extensions?. These are: OpenOffice_org-writer-extensions OpenOffice_org-calc-extensions OpenOffice_org-impress-extensions. There was something extensions-related in the strace log close before the crash. It didn't look dangerous but... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried reinstalling the OO.org packages once, so I must have missed that one somehow (not sure how...). Reinstalling OpenOffice_org-libs-core seems to have done the trick. I'd be curious to know what caused the problem in the first place, but I'm not really sure how to diagnose that (if it's even possible...) Thanks for the assistance! I'll mark this closed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I would suggest to check them with the utilities "badblocks" and "fsck" :-( Of course, the file might have got broken also from other strange reasons but it would be hard to find. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
