In particular: WINDOWMANAGER (default value: xterm) The environment variable WINDOWMANAGER instructs xinit about the command to be used to start the window manager. It is calculated from the desktop file installed in the directory /usr/share/xsessions by the window manager named as specified by the system setting DEFAULT_WM.
