It is not embedded, therefore Acroread has to search for it on the system and if it cannot find it it should replace it with a fallback Japanese font. I have this font installed on the Machine where I am testing but acroread fails to use it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

More specifically, is it a .ttc file or a .ttf file. I could see that acroread is not able to use .ttc font file to render fonts, while other applications like kpdf can. Please confirm. Thanks! However, when MS-Mincho is installed using fc-cache, acroread is not able to use either of the fonts : msmincho.ttc or KozMinproVI-Regular and starts prompting for Japanese font pack installation. Actually kpdf uses a .ttf file: mfabian@magellan:~/test-texts/pdf/japanese$ grep fonts /proc/$(pidof kpdf)/maps 7f44b279c000-7f44b281e000 r--p 00000000 08:02 1128499 /local/fonts/vista/ariali.ttf 7f44b281e000-7f44b28d6000 r--p 00000000 08:02 1128496 /local/fonts/vista/arial.ttf 7f44b28d6000-7f44b3180000 r--p 00000000 08:02 1128432 /local/fonts/vista/MSMINCHO.TTF 7f44b77cf000-7f44b7c86000 r--p 00000000 08:01 1100010 /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ipagp.ttf mfabian@magellan:~/test-texts/pdf/japanese$ (ipagp.ttf is used for the user interface of kpdf, MSMINCHO.TTF for the document). I happen to have three versions of "MS Mincho" installed, /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msmincho.ttc from Windows XP and /usr/share/fonts/vista/msmincho.ttc and /usr/share/fonts/vista/MSMINCHO.TTF from Windows Vista. mfabian@magellan:~/test-texts/pdf/japanese$ fc-list "MS Mincho" file /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msmincho.ttc: /usr/share/fonts/vista/msmincho.ttc: /usr/share/fonts/vista/MSMINCHO.TTF: mfabian@magellan:~/test-texts/pdf/japanese$ kpdf happens to use MSMINCHO.TTF. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But kpdf can indeed use the .ttc font as well, if I uninstall MSMINCHO.TTF, kpdf still works and uses /usr/share/fonts/vista/msmincho.ttc. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, acroread does indeed display the document correctly when I delete all versions of "MS Mincho" from my system. I see only IPAPGothic in grep fonts /proc/$(pidof acroread)/maps and not KozMinproVI-Regular but apparently acroread does use KozMinproVI-Regular to display that document, what I see on the screen looks like KozMinproVI-Regular. For some reason it just doesn't show up in grep fonts /proc/$(pidof acroread)/maps So yes, it works in that case. Sanika> However, when MS-Mincho is installed using fc-cache, acroread Sanika> is not able to use either of the fonts : msmincho.ttc or Sanika> KozMinproVI-Regular and starts prompting for Japanese font Sanika> pack installation. Yes, that is true. By the way, it is enough to install *only* MSMINCHO.TTF to make acroread fail to display the document and prompt for Japanese font pack installation. (MSMINCHO.TTF is really a .ttf font, not a .ttc font, I confirmed this with "ftdump"). Somehow acroread doesn't like the "MS Mincho" font no matter in what incarnation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
