[Bug 413598] New: updating xorg-x11-Xvnc is deleting files and does not install anything -> not bootable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=413598 Summary: updating xorg-x11-Xvnc is deleting files and does not install anything -> not bootable Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: raymund.achner@achner.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Other Reproducible error When installing: xorg-x11-Xvnc "Multiple Xorg vulnerabilities reported by iDefense" xorg-x11-Xvnc "xorg-x11-server: Fix for intel driver crashes and related issues." xorg-x11-Xvnc "XServer: Fix for Wacom driver crash" with standard "openSUSE Updater" the install procedure deletes some files but does not install anything. After update the "openSUSE Updater" tells that there are no further fixes to install. Next time booting the boot process is *very* slow without starting X. Using the install dvd and updating the installation there are 8 or 9 packages to be installed (and none to delete or update). Then the computer will boot correctly. I need to configure the update process again and then the three files above will be offered to be installed again. hardware: asus F7F 7S005C Let me know if you need some more infos. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Your surname sounds like.) I had this problem two times. With the third installation I remarked what happens: the installation deletes some packages and doesn't install anything. After repairing the installation the three files are again in my update-list. I CAN reproduce it. Tell me what further information you need. List of libs? How can I produce debug output which may help you? What can I do?? For me and for you? thanks and bye, Raymund -- web: http://www.achner.com mail: raymund.achner@achner.com pgp: http://www.achner.com/data/pgp/raymund.achner.asc -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since I now know what is wrong I installed the packages above before rebooting. The effect was the same. I need to start with i.e. kde4 and install kde3 base and desktop. I now checked again the rpm difference. I seem to loose that five packages but I don't know when. kdebase3-SuSE-11.0-117.1 kdebase3-SuSE-lang-11.0-117.1 kdebase3-3.5.9-65.1 kdebase3-session-3.5.9-65.1 kdebase3-kdm-3.5.9-65.1 And last: when I tried to shut down the computer after updating xorg-x11-Xvnc the system switched to console displaying some "checkpoint". The login-prompt was shown but it didn't shut down. May be thats because kde3 which I worked with has been lost. Before shutting down I opened a shell and I got one with another look then it used to have and I got an error from kicker or something like that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

These are the packages which are missing after the update?
(and I saw that the updates are downloaded from the packman repository)
Which updates? The X.Org update? Maybe you're mixing too many repository together? I can't comment on KDE3/KDE4. For me it seems yast gets completely confused by too many repositories, from which you're trying to update. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The only repositories I have are the openSUSE main repos OSS, non-OSS and debug, openSUSE update, packman and openSUSE BuildService "KDE:Community". OK, I will try it without the packman repos and tell you if it then works.
