[Bug 805016] New: HPLIP nags me to install proprietary plug-in although printer works
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=805016 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=805016#c0 Summary: HPLIP nags me to install proprietary plug-in although printer works Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@suse.com ReportedBy: teuniz@gmail.com QAContact: jsmeix@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 Package: hplip Version: 3.12.4-3.1.2 Hi, I have an HP LaserJet P2055. Every time I turn on the printer, hplip pops up a message box: "Driver Plug-In Required. HP Device requires proprietary plug-in which is missing. Press Next to continue plug-in installation." This is not true. My printer works fine without any proprietary plug-in. Perhaps the plug-in adds some feature to the driver, but it is nothing that I need. I think that a) the message should not display unless the plug-in is really necessary, b) if it does display, then it should not say that the plug-in is required when it is not, c) at the very least, there should be an option: "Do not display this message again". Thanks. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install HPLIP via Yast 2. Connect a HP Laserjetprinter via USB 3. Switch on the printer Actual Results: I have an HP LaserJet P2055. Every time I turn on the printer, hplip pops up a message box: "Driver Plug-In Required. HP Device requires proprietary plug-in which is missing. Press Next to continue plug-in installation." Expected Results: There should no popup message box. My printer works fine without any proprietary plug-in. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The issue is not caused by openSUSE, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/page.cgi?id=fields.html#status regarding "upstream" bug. I cannot reproduce the issue because we do not have a HP LaserJet P2055 and it does not happen for me neither with a HP LaserJet 1220 that does not need a plugin (no plugin gets installed via "hp-setup" and no messages regarding missing plugin) nor with a HP LaserJet 1020 that requires a plugin (after the plugin for the LaserJet 1020 was downloaded and installed via "hp-setup" it works for me). Perhaps it is fixed in the newest HPLIP 3.13.2. I provide the newest HPLIP 3.13.2 as RPM packages "hplip", "hplip-hpijs", and "hplip-sane" for various openSUSE and Suse Linux Enterprise versions in the "Printing" development project in the openSUSE build service for 32-bit i586 and 64-bit x86_64 architecture. E.g. for openSUSE 12.2 32-bit i586 from this direct URL http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_12.2/i586/ Please read https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Printing For general information see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_set-up_a_HP_printer I would appreciate it if you could test if the openSUSE HPLIP 3.13.2 RPM packages "hplip", "hplip-hpijs", and "hplip-sane" work for you. If it is not fixed in the newest HPLIP 3.13.2 please report it to upstream HPLIP via http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/support.html and post an URL of your upstream report here as reference. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
