[Bug 406979] New: Can't "Open with" files that are send as application/ octet-stream
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406979 Summary: Can't "Open with" files that are send as application/octet-stream Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sloncho@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=226376) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=226376) snapshot of the "Open" of ff3 This was reported in bugzilla.mozilla.org for v. 1.5, and looks like was fixed - as it was working OK with opensuse 10.3 and firefox 2.0. Now, with opensuse 11.0 and Firefox 3 it is again broken (I have updated the entry on mozilla site: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327323 ) Here is the problem: Whenever I click on a link to a file, which is provided as mimetype application/octet-stream (the server uses generic ones, as this is custom application I have no control over), firefox 3.0 only offers me to save the file, and does not allow me choose "Open with...", even if firefox itself detects the type of the file. In my situation I'm trying to open a xls (excel file). I know that the server sends myme type of application/octet-stream (checked with telnet to the url, and reading the headers). Firefox itself recognizes that this is excel spreadsheet, but it still offers only "Save" as option (see the attachment). If the web server correctly sets the mime type to application/msexcel, firefox offers "Open with" button, as well as selection which application to open the file (OO being the default). Using the same website, this is not a problem for firefox 2.0 - it behaves OK on opensuse 10.3, as well as using firefox 3 on windows. I have renamed my .mozilla/firefox directory and started ff again, it recreated it w/o any extensions, etc., and the behavior was the same, so it is not because some add-on, or modified setting. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We're using a html-based Groupware System and it's E-Mail client. Every file, that the Firefox can't handle you need to save to harddrive, and open it from there (via konqueror, for example). I do remember the story from the past as well, when we used Firefox 1.5 and had the same problems. But then, one update solved it. We moved the entire company to OpenSuSE 11.0, because we had serious problems with OpenSuSE 10.2 (random Firefox crashes, Shitty Kernels (samba bugs),etc). Everything is running fine with OpenSuSE 11.0, beside that file-open thing. Like Svetoslav reported, it can't be due to a plugin or addon, because we removed the entire .mozilla folder, and we are still having that problem. I agree to 100 % with report above, we see the same behaviour on all desktops. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
