For a long-term solution, I guess we need to extend the syntax somehow. I have no good idea how to represent such a case, though; a normal wildcard doesn't fit well, as we want only a single file for fallback, after all.
Well in the code we have IWL_22000_UCODE_API_MIN which is the oldest FW that is supported. That could be used for fallback.
Not really, it's not guaranteed to exist, either :) The extended MODULE_FIRMWARE() should indicate the range of ucode, and which one is the highest priority (increasing or decreasing), at least.
