[Bug 1192096] New: no keyboard or mouse response in SDDM greeter in 20211025
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192096 Bug ID: 1192096 Summary: no keyboard or mouse response in SDDM greeter in 20211025 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: mrmazda@earthlink.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: fabian@ritter-vogt.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Original Summary: no keyboard or mouse response in SDDM greeter in 20211025 This followed a normal zypper dup from 20210817 to 20210825. Now I get a pretty login screen that's useless for entering username or password. Switching to tty2 and back doesn't help. Restarting xdm from tty2 doesn't help either. Switching to LightDM worked, but its appeal is sub-zero. I asked about this on support mailing list, but as yet, no response. After isolating multi-user.target, startx succeeds to open a Plasma session. # rpmqa sddm kcm_sddm-5.23.1-1.1.x86_64 sddm-0.19.0-4.2.x86_64 sddm-branding-upstream-0.19.0-4.2.x86_64 # inxi -SMCPmy System: Host: p5bse Kernel: 5.14.14-1-default x86_64 bits: 64 Console: tty pts/0 Distro: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20211025 Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: P5B SE v: Rev 1.xx serial: MS6C79B32413550 BIOS: American Megatrends v: 1103 date: 06/04/2009 Memory: RAM: total: 3.82 GiB used: 546.5 MiB (14.0%) Array-1: capacity: 8 GiB slots: 4 EC: None Device-1: DIMM_A1 size: 2 GiB speed: 800 MT/s Device-2: DIMM_A2 size: No Module Installed Device-3: DIMM_B1 size: 2 GiB speed: 800 MT/s Device-4: DIMM_B2 size: No Module Installed CPU: Info: Dual Core model: Intel Core2 Duo E7500 bits: 64 type: MCP cache: L2: 3 MiB Speed: 1600 MHz min/max: 1596/2926 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1600 2: 1600 Partition: ID-1: / size: 6.16 GiB used: 4.43 GiB (71.9%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda24 ID-2: /home size: 4.23 GiB used: 1.27 GiB (30.0%) fs: ext3 dev: /dev/sda9 ID-3: swap-1 size: 1.82 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sda5 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192096 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192096#c1 --- Comment #1 from Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> --- Still a problem in sddm-0.19.0-4.3.x86_64 in TW20211213. Occasionally greeter will accept some username or password input, but it's hit or miss and never results in login success. It's terribly non-responsive to attempts to use mouse to place focus in username or password fields. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried elarun, maldives & maya, with equivalent results: can't input login name or password; can't even get a cursor to show up in the input fields. In maldives there's no response to attempts to use the select lists for session & layout. String "sddm" doesn't appear in dmesg. Keyboard is now responsive, but it's hard to get much accomplished on the login screen without the (unwanted) onscreen keyboard opening at the outset, and randomly returning. It won't stay dismissed. # journalctl -b | grep sddm | wc -l 55 # journalctl -b | grep fail | wc -l 61 # journalctl -b | grep fail | grep sddm # journalctl -b | grep -v disk | grep fail | wc -l 46 # -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
