https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=697187 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=697187#c0 Summary: Crackling sound through speakers, cracking noise Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: sergiom99@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 I installed 11.4 in my HP laptop and managed to make all my hardware work. But I got this annoying cracking sound trough the speakers every once in a while, specially when some on screen stuff appears (like the translucid volume bar) or a new window or whatever. It even does it with the sound muted. If I play mp3 in mplayer (Cannot use amarok b/c of the bug with the nvidia driver) or videos in VLC, theres no cracking noise at all. I had Kubuntu 9.04 installed in this laptop since Apr/2009 until yesterday and had no such issues. More details and discussion and test can be found here at the forums: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/laptop/458643-cra... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Press the mute key so that an on-screen indicator appers; and or 2. Open a new window; and or 3. Move around some windows; and or 4. Do nothing and wait for a crackling sound Actual Results: Annoying cracking noise through the speakers or the headphones. Seems to get worse and more frequent with headphones plugged in. Expected Results: Annoying cracking noise through the speakers or the headphones. Seems to get worse and more frequent with headphones plugged in. Try alsa-driver-kmp on OBS multimedia:audio:KMP repo. It's the driver update built from the very latest alsa-driver snapshot.
Thanks Takashi! I updated the drivers following the wiki, to what I believe are the latest drivers: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Alsa-update I used the section for the UPDATED Kernel, since I keep everything up to date with zypper. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
