[Bug 483153] New: Resume from suspend stopped working after kernel update from 2.6.27.7-9.1 to 2.6.27.19-3.2pae
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483153 Summary: Resume from suspend stopped working after kernel update from 2.6.27.7-9.1 to 2.6.27.19-3.2pae Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: crmhrm@attglobal.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=277829) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=277829) /var/log/pm-suspend.log for kernel 2.6.27.19-3.2pae User-Agent: Opera/9.63 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.1.1 IBM T23 laptop Machine matched entry 422: sys_vendor = 'IBM' sys_product = '2647*' sys_version = '' bios_version = '' Fixes: 0x3 S3_BIOS S3_MODE This machine can be identified by: sys_vendor = "IBM" sys_product = "26474MU" sys_version = "Not Available" bios_version = "1AET64WW (1.20 )" With original OpenSuSE 11.1 install (kernel 2.6.27.7-9.1), Fn+F4 on the laptop keyboard would suspend to RAM. Fn key would resume system. Now after the update, Fn+F4 still suspends correctly, but on resuming, the display is some color streaks on the top quarter of the monitor screen. I tried Ctrl+Alt+Bksp to kill X, but nothing happened. The system will reboot with the left Alt + SysRq + r s e i u b sequence. I switched back to kernel 2.6.27.7-9.1, and resume works again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Press Fn+F4 or in console 'su -c s2ram' does suspend to RAM 2. Press Fn key and system resumes something, but display is just colored bits. 3. Actual Results: Display is just colored bits. No response to keyboard except reboot with the left Alt + SysRq + r s e i u b sequence. Expected Results: With kernel 2.6.27.7-9.1, I get a login window for password, then normal resume of system. The system runs KDE 4.1.3, default theme. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm having a similar issue when using the new kernel (2.6.27.19-3.2.1-pae). Hardware is a Dell Latitude D520 with an Intel 945 GM. I'm using GNOME as DE and not KDE. Reverting to the 2.6.27.7-9-pae kernel solves the resume issue. A slight differance in what happens when suspending as what happening with Howard's system: When closing the laptop lid or suspending from within GNOME the laptop tries to suspend but hangs while doing so.. the status indicators (caps lock / scroll lock) start flashing and the system just locks up. Only option is to hard power off the laptop and restart (the ALT SysRq .. seq does not work in this state). Strangely, using ' su -c s2ram ' from a terminal console does work correctly and also resumes the system correctly. As I will be on holiday the next couple of weeks I won't be able to supply any input until I return... still, thought I'd share my findings as they could help pinpoint the source. Both laptos have an Intel video chipset... could that be a first place to look?
