[Bug 228690] New: Apache2 does not work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228690 Summary: Apache2 does not work Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: uli.2001@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de I have installed the following Apache2 packages: apache2, apache2-mod_php5, apache2-prefork. As root, I tried to run the command "rcapache2 start". The result is: Module "access" is not installed, ignoring. Check the APACHE_MODULES setting in /etc/sysconfig/apache2. Module "auth" is not installed, ignoring. Check the APACHE_MODULES setting in /etc/sysconfig/apache2. Module "auth_dbm" is not installed, ignoring. Check the APACHE_MODULES setting in /etc/sysconfig/apache2. Starting httpd2 (prefork) Syntax error on line 10 of /etc/apache2/mod_status.conf: Invalid command 'Order', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration The command line was: /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf failed ---------------------- Furthermore, "rcapache2 start" failed before for another reason: in /etc/sysconfig, my mpm was apparently set to "work", not to "prefork" which is installed. This might have to do with a previous installation of Apache in an earlier Suse-version, but still it required me some time to figure out what is going on and what I need to do. I am not sure whether this situation should be better. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

No, I did not restore /etc/sysconfig/apache2 from a backup. However, in the meantime I could fix the problem by changing APACHE_MODULES in that file to the default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228690 poeml@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|ASSIGNED |NEEDINFO Info Provider| |uli.2001@gmx.de ------- Comment #5 from poeml@novell.com 2007-01-09 03:01 MST ------- The presence of the module "access" in the 'a2enmod -l' output is a definite sign that the list of modules has _not_ been adapted during update (but update from 10.0 or earlier). The thing is, apache 2.2.x needs a different list of modules than apache 2.0.x. Products up to and including 10.0 shipped 2.0.x, and 10.1 onwards came with 2.2.x. Now, if you installed 10.1 (or 10.2) from scratch you can't hit this problem at all, because the list of modules in /etc/sysconfig/apache2 will fit the package. If the apache2 package is updated, it _always_ makes sure that the list of modules is adapted per %post script (by running /usr/share/apache2/apache-20-22-upgrade). There are few situations where this script is not run, like if you update with rpm -U --noscripts, or maybe if something else than rpm is used for the update. Or if the sysconfig file is backed up and later replaced the change could be reversed. But that's about what I can conceive. No other cases of a "failed update" have become known to me so far. Anyhow, running /usr/share/apache2/apache-20-22-upgrade would fix the installation -- -- unless the sysconfig file has some unique and special feature which prevents the script from successfully doing its job. There is always the chance of a bug, you know. If you still have the file, please attach it here, thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I used apache2 for a short time a while ago, then did not use it with 10.1 (and maybe also not with 10.0 and some earlier versions), and then I tried to use it again with 10.2. The attached /etc/sysconfig/apache2 is the one after changing APACHE_MODULES to the default value using Yast2. During the updates, I always used Yast. I cannot remember doing anything special to my apache configuration or during upgrades. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Well, I have no idea then. Would you mind me closing the bug as worksforme? I can't find any report about a similar problem in Google, and it is hard to say when and where something might have gone wrong.
