[Bug 508548] New: HPLIP: A3, 11x17", 13x19" papersizes not available on HP CP1700
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=508548 Summary: HPLIP: A3, 11x17", 13x19" papersizes not available on HP CP1700 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: knan-novell@anduin.net QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 Papersizes larger than A4/legal is not available with the default ppd files in opensuse 11.1 for my father's "hp color inkjet printer cp1700". This is a regression from SUSE 9.2, when nothing special needed to be done for A3/11x17"/13x19" support. (A3 is the size I'm interested in, but the printer supports up to 330x483mm alias 13x19") Removing the two applicable ppd files from /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/ - namely hp-color_inkjet_cp1700-hpijs.ppd and hp-color_inkjet_printer_cp1700-hpijs.ppd , dropping in the ppd file attached at https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/290559 and recreating the print queue fixes the problem for A3, printing an A3 document from OpenOffice works as well as before the upgrade from SUSE 9.2. It's a pretty outdated ppd for an earlier hplip version, but it works. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Add hp color inkjet cp1700 printer via yast. 2.Open the printer settings dialog. 3.Look at available paper sizes. Actual Results: A4 biggest available paper size. Expected Results: A3 and other paper sizes available. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As always we ship the version which was up to date when our package version upgrade deadline for the particular product was (here for openSUSE 11.1). We cannot ship a version which had become released after our package version upgrade deadline for openSUSE 11.1. There is no need to file an enhancement request to ship an up to date version for the upcomming openSUSE 11.2 because as always we will ship the version which will be up to date when our package version upgrade deadline for our next product will be. In the meantime you can try out Raymond Wooninck's HPLIP who provides currently HPLIP version 3.9.4b, see http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2009-04/msg00283.html and additionally you may have a look at http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2009-04/msg00506.html According to Aaron Albright's comment in https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/290559 on 2008-11-18 it is already fixed upstream. Therefore it should be already fixed in HPLIP version 3.9.4b. If not, please file an upstream bug report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/ -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Any reason for not backporting that (besides lack of time, which I can understand...)? A philosophical "we don't fix upstream's bugs" ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When it is an upstream bug, we report it upstream and - if possible - we fix it but we usually fix it only for our next product version (currently openSUSE 11.2). Reasons for "not backporting": 1. Lack of time, compare http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2009-04/msg00003.html 2. We provide only fixes for really severe bugs in released openSUSE versions (in particular security bugs). The reason behind this policy is the "lack of time" problem. In contrast for our business products like Suse Linux Enterprise Server and Desktop (SLES and SLED) we can provide also fixes for normal bugs if it can be fixed in the current package version and if the fix does not break anything else and if the customer has an appropriate support contract with us (we offer several levels of support for SLES and SLED). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
