[Bug 1204742] New: Loud beep at shutdown on Lenovo Thinkpad
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204742 Bug ID: 1204742 Summary: Loud beep at shutdown on Lenovo Thinkpad Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: eldrad.ulthran@o2online.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Whenever I shut down a Lenovo Thinkpad 20H2-S00700, a very loud and annoying beep is played. This has been reported on various pages like https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/x58yiv/after_tw_update_my_systems... or https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/solved-loud-beep-at-shutdown/27389/34 however, blacklisting pcspkr didn't help on my system now the beep is coming through the stereo speakers. I can only prevent the beeping by muting sound altogether via pulseaudio. This might be the same bug as on Fedora: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2129387 However, as for me, it is not connected to suspend and resume, but it happens at normal poweroff. The workaround in comment #4 DOES silence the beeping for the current session, but does not persist for the next session: busctl set-property org.freedesktop.login1 /org/freedesktop/login1 org.freedesktop.login1.Manager EnableWallMessages b false -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Run the script with --no-upload option, and attach the output. I guess you have Beep mixer volume/switch control and it's enabled. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Try to run once: amixer -c0 set Beep mute
Oh wow, this works and persists for subsequent sessions as well. It seems this is somehow special for my Lenovo Laptop, as my home-build PC with Tumbleweed does not have any beep channel in alsamixer. Thank you! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204742 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204742#c5 Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED --- Comment #5 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- Yes, it depends on the hardware. On some devices, the beep is explicitly disabled by the driver, but on some, it still remains like your case. The Beep switch should have been turned off as default on openSUSE, but it seems that it was turned on accidentally and the system keeps the value. I close the bug now, as it seems working. If you encounter the problem again even if you didn't turn it on explicitly, feel free to reopen; then we need to hunt who is the culprit. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
