[Bug 725209] New: Graphic artefacts on window - invalidation/redraw issue
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=725209 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=725209#c0 Summary: Graphic artefacts on window - invalidation/redraw issue Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: afaerber@suse.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=457623) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=457623) Screenshot of gnome-terminal with some artifacts As requested at the Beta Pizza Party, I am reporting that on my Dell Optiplex 990 MT, dragging a window in openSUSE 12.1 Beta causes a pattern of artifacts on that whole window. Some of them disappear when the mouse is moved over controls that are redrawn but other parts remains "covered". To be exact, shortly after beginning to drag (in like 75% of cases), artifacts appear on the whole window. When stopping, depending on the window, some parts of the window are redrawn. For example, GNOME Terminal redraws terminal text and scroll bar. In some cases also title bar, minimize/maximize/close buttons. Menu bar and tabs and border areas however remain obscured. Screenshot attached (made more text appear in menu/tabs than visible before). It was speculated that this issue may be related to the Software Rasterizer fallback mode being used for GNOME3. # /sbin/lspci [...] 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Cedar PRO [Radeon HD 5450] Please advise which other info is needed to investigate. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I doubt we can fix this easily, but we can force the fallback mode. Can you give me the output of: "glxinfo | grep renderer" ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer By comparison, the issue does not occur on another machine where glxinfo says "Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this running compiz or any other compositing manager, or just a plain metacity? The fact that it also affects the window frame is interesting. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
