For some reason, this doesn't occur when the system is under load. However, X or the kernel crashes within a couple of minutes when the system isn't loaded. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=267100) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=267100) [details] Output from "X logverbose 7".
Thanks. This log file looks good. There is no indication of a crash in https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=265894 just a bunch of calls to BalnCRTC (which can only be caused by a client calling into the screen saver or DPMS). The kernel crash could have caused the fs not to be synced resulting in the Xserver crash to not be visible in the log file - but I doubt this. The verbose log file looks OK and I don't see anything that could have caused the crash.
I'm beginning to think X is not the problem, only the most common symptom. After failsafe boot, I sometimes get logged out when I quit from less or more with 'q'. There may be a segmentation fault, but I haven't been able to capture a core dump (I have set the core dump size to unlimited in .bashrc).
Right. That's my impression as well. Maybe bad memory. Have you tried memtest? Also check if the fglrx kernel module isn't loaded - since you used fglrx the module may still be there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
