http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1059430 Bug ID: 1059430 Summary: Black screen with mouse after boot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: mmrmartin@gmail.com QA Contact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 741152 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=741152&action=edit Black screen with mouse pointer After the last update to Tumbleweed 20170913, I cannot run graphical login, I only get a black screen with mouse pointer (see attachment). I use Intel graphics card and I haven't seen anything like this before. I cannot find anything interesting in dmesg. I can only fix it by rollback with `snapper`. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace does restart but ends with the same result. Terminal login works well. $ lspci -nnk | grep -A3 VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:3975] Kernel driver in use I don't find any /var/log/Xorg* or /var/log/gdm/* log. I cannot even determinate which package does the bug so I cannot provide more now. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry for that, software updater leaves packages in a weird state. Thanks for your help. But I think there really should be some dependency between gnome-shell and ?gdm?. I don't have packages from any weird repository and I don't use `zypper dup` I only use `gpk-update-viewer`. Everything was probably caused by `typelib-1_0-Tracker-1_x` because gnome-shell needs to replace it with `typelib-1_0-Tracker-2_0`. But this wasn't done automatically so the gnome-shell stayed on an old version.
=> INVALID 'zypper dup' is the only method that does not break Tumbleweed every now and then'. All PK based updaters are 'work in progress' to get this sorted (hopefully this will happen sooner or later) The updater applets only accept 'updates' to packages, but major updates can also mean 'downgrades' of version every now and then (in case there were issues) and package removals (like tracker 1.x)); both things that a pure 'updater' will ignore and find a 'solution' to work around it, generally be trying to update only parts of the system (and breaking) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
