[Bug 994205] New: KDE/sddm default config is terrible
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=994205 Bug ID: 994205 Summary: KDE/sddm default config is terrible Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: sweet_f_a@gmx.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hi, Default KDE installation installs sddm which is really annoying configured/buggy. This list is ordered by importance: 1. There is no more field to type the user name. Only a huge horizontal list where it's really hard to find the user. Scrolling through the whole list is a pain. Morover it does not show the user names but only /etc/passwd's comment field. 2. ctrl-alt-delete key binding does not work anymore. 3. Generally it's hard or at least not obvious how to use the whole thing without mouse. 4. If you click on something like reboot then crazy animated confirmation dialog starts. It makes me really dizzy. 5. BUG: sddm is still shows disabled users too. It's shows everybody who ever worked in our company ... 6. If you network/NIS does not work during boot-up then it shows no users. Regardless if NIS comes back to life. That's real fun without user text field. 7. The options to configure which users are shown at all are really poor in opposite to kdm. IMO the this is a step backwards. Since at least 15 years we've got better configured displaymanagers by default. cu, Rudi -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

AFAIK sddm is not part of KDE. So upstream is just sddm itself.
But the default theme we use is created by KDE and part of Plasma5. This is going to be reworked completely for 5.8, which will be part of 42.2.
I have no intention to fix sddm. Just want to ask openSUSE to not use it, regardless which installation target is choosen by the installer.
Isn't this rather a feature request? It is no bug that we use sddm by default on a KDE installation (and only if you select "KDE" during installation). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
