After serveral, repeated "init 3; init 5" calls, X started up. Oh, that's not being done via INITRD_MODULES in in /etc/sysconfig/kernel. It's done via /lib/mkinitrd/scripts/setup-kms.sh when running mkinitrd. I guess you disabled Intel graphics in BIOS after running mkinitrd (being run when the kernel gets installed or udpated).
