If an MPI implementation has been selected, mpivars.sh or mpivars.csh are sourced by the login shell. These scripts set the path the openmpi binaries (or rather their symlinks). If calling of mpi binaries like mpicc doesn't work, check that calling 'mpi-selector --list' returns at least one implementation. Mpi-selector is always used as you never know whether the user might want to use additional implementations. Normally you wouldn't notice it's present as on fresh install the openmpi implementation is registered after installation and unregistered after uninstalling.If you look at the .spec file of the openmpi source rpm you'll see the code doing it. A bug in the mpi-selector package which lead to rpm not discovering the dependency on pearl was responsible that this automatic (de)registration failed.In the future the openmpi package will contain code to detect this situation and will do a deregistration and afterward a registration.
