https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=235287 ------- Comment #8 from jimbob@mytrashmail.com 2007-01-28 10:23 MST ------- As additional info for comment/attachment #7. Mandriva has a test kernel, kernel-2.6.17.10.uc1mdv dated 25-Jan-07 in .../main/testing, based on the above patch to fix the HP5300C HP5370C issue. See the bug report http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=26728 and the 2007 errata http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2007Errata for additional info (hardware section). If you have a spare partition to give Mandriva 2007.0 a try with the test kernel any feedback would be appreciated. I have tried the kernel successfully with my 5300C. Don't forget the option statement "options uhci-hcd rapid_enum=y" that goes in /etc/modprobe.conf, I put it on the first line then rebooted to test. As mentioned in the bug report a USB blacklist is a better approach but it will not be available for some time. So the test kernel is the best available for now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=235287#c11 --- Comment #11 from Tristan Miller <psychonaut@nothingisreal.com> 2007-11-07 09:44:57 MST --- I tried a 2.2.23 ccj kernel (2.6.23.1-900.ccj57) and now the scanner isn't detected by YaST at all (though it does show up as detected in dmesg). I suppose ccj kernels aren't supported so I thought I'd ask if anyone here with an official SUSE kernel >= 2.6.21 could let me know if their scanner now works. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start YaST 2. Hardware->Scanner 3. "Scanner Configuration" dialog appears up with the following data: Driver Scanner -------------- ------- No scanner was detected and no active scanner or driver exists. 4. Click Add 5. "Scanner Model and Driver Selection" dialog appears; choose "Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5300C : Driver avision (package sane)..." 6. Click Next 7. For this kind of fix, please use the 10.3 kernel releases, it is fixed already there.
Somehow this can't be true, at least not for all configurations. OpenSUSE 10.3 DVD. ScanJet 5300C via USB still doesn't work. All OpenSUSE Updates installed as of 2008-03-12, updated kernel was booted. The output of the YaST scanner config is as described above in the original description: Not Configured USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0, product=0x0701) at libusb:002:022 avision No scanner recognized by this driver Trying to edit or remove one or the other entry results in errors. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sane crashes using e.g. 150 dpi. - The scanner is extremely slow using higher scan resolutions. - It takes forever to detect the scanner e.g. by "scanimage -L" or the appropriate scanner frontends. - The YaST scanner setup is broken. Allthogh it detects the ScanMaker 5300C with the correct snae backaned avision, it lists those two entries. Trying to edit *or* delete the avision entry ends up in a message saying "It is only possible to delete a driver without a matching scanner.". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
