[Bug 447369] New: "search" option in "/etc/resolv.conf" is not evaluated properly
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447369 Summary: "search" option in "/etc/resolv.conf" is not evaluated properly Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mail@steffen-moser.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer According to "man resolv.conf" the option "search" can be used to specify a space- or tab-separated list of domain names which are appended for host-lookup. openSUSE-11.1-beta5 shows quite a strange behavior. Assume that we have the following contents in "/etc/resolv.conf" (I didn't use "DHCP" in my tests, but configured my network devices and DNS settings manually): | search home.invalid informatik.uni-ulm.de egu.schule.ulm.de | nameserver 192.168.1.1 I would expect that the domains "home.invalid", "informatik.uni-ulm.de" and "egu.schule.ulm.de" are appended when trying to resolve a host name which is not existent in my machine's own domain. When typing "host www" ("www.home.invalid" is really not existent) then I get: | Host www.home.invalid not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) | Host www.home.invalid not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) "ping www" leads to a "unknown host". I have to add that there is a host named "www" within both other domains, "informatik.uni-ulm.de" and "egu.schule.ulm.de". My observation is: Only the first domain name which is stated after the word "search" is really appended, the others are just ignored. I have done some straces. They just don't show any syscalls containing "informatik.uni-ulm.de" or "egu.schule.ulm.de". I can observe the same problem in openSUSE-11.0. At least SUSE-10.0 didn't show the problem. Maybe there is a bug in GLIBC which was introduced between 10.0 and 11.0? Stopping "nscd" doesn't change anything. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
