Replying from a different address than the one to which the request arrived is really wrong. mount.nfs was recently changed to use 'connected UDP sockets' rather than 'unconnected UDP sockets' when trying to contact the server via UDP. The advantage of this is that if the server is not contactable, and an ICMP message reports that, the error will be reported back to the application promptly. With unconnected sockets, it is not safe to report an ICMP error back to the application. So with connected sockets, attempts to contact multi-homes Solaris machines is slow. With unconnected sockets, attempts to contact certain other machines which .e.g do not listen for portmap requests on UDP will be slow. It is not clear how to resolve this. You might be able to skip the UDP attempt by adding the mount option mountproto=tcp Could you try this? It is very tempting to make "mountproto=tcp" be the default. However I'm afraid it'll break some use case what previously worked, just like the change to connected UDP ports did for you. I'll leave this bug open a while longer while I have some discussions with interested parties to see what others think.
