[Bug 694943] New: Laptop wifi button ignored (compaq presario CQ61-330SS)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694943 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694943#c0 Summary: Laptop wifi button ignored (compaq presario CQ61-330SS) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Laptop wifi button ignored (compaq presario CQ61-330SS) - 11.4 When lighted blue, a press disables the network, light goes red. When red, short, repeated or long keypresses are ignored. No entries in logs. This worked fine in 11.2. A regression, thus. However, "rcnetwork start" works and switches it on - which would be a mistake if I want wifi off, eth on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the perspective of the driver, "rcnetwork restart" is similar to "ifconfig wlan0 down -> ifconfig wlan0 up".
Carlos, Did the network function not work as expected? or is it just about the led? BTW, It would be helpful if you could provide the information about the hardware [*]. Carlos,
Did the network function not work as expected? or is it just about the led?
Let me try to explain. When the WiFi is up, pressing the wifi button switches it off, and the led goes red. This is as expected. But a second touch does not reconnect the wifi, it remains off. That is the problem, I expect the second press to reconnect the wifi. Instead, I have to do "rcnetwork restart", which reconnects the wifi and puts the led on "blue".
BTW, It would be helpful if you could provide the information about the hardware [*].

Here, please wait for a while, it would take few seconds, not very quick due to driver do the polling in every 5 seconds. If the LED remains red after about 30 seconds, then go to /sys/class/leds/[vendor-class]/ cat the value of brightness.
