[Bug 715737] New: Mic doesn't work on acer aspire one 522, and neither does the external speaker jack
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=715737 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=715737#c0 Summary: Mic doesn't work on acer aspire one 522, and neither does the external speaker jack Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: dutchkind@txoriaskea.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0 On the Acer Aspire One 522 with the new AMD C50 processor I can't get the mic to work. Both internal mic and via the jack don't work. Besides that an external speaker connected to the sound out connection won't work. I know it's a brand new model, and I didn't even try to install previous opensuse releases because it was too new and I didn't expect it to work, but it would be nice to get this working before 12.1 final. (btw most things are working great with 12.1 on this netbook, it's only some minor things and this sound stuff) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's for my wife's netbook so I didn't have it at hand. The mentioned alsa-driver-kmp is for a newer kernel, and it seems the beta to be released today is not yet available, so I couldn't try it yet. As soon as the beta becomes available I will do a zypper dup and try it again and post an update. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Clean install hangs, whatever I did, and upgrade to beta seemed also not to work, until I realized I should try nomodeset, and ther we go. The good news is that the mic now does work with this alsa kernel module installed, but I admit I didn't check it without on beta 1. Two remarks, one is that the mic seems very sensitive and was difficult to adjust, and I only got it to work in audacity, unfortunately not in Skype yet. In Skype all you hear is some crackling sounds. Maybe I should try a newer Skype, but that has to be in 2 weeks since I will not have this netbook at hand for the coming time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I made a fresh install, same thing in skype. Installed audacity and same crackling noise. Then I changed the input in audacity from mono to stereo and there was a working microphone! So it has something to do with mono/stereo of the mic, don't know what yet. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thus, summing the stereo channels into a mono channel gives only some noises. Unfortunately, PulseAudio can't know of this (even the driver doesn't know exactly). So, just use stereo streams on such machines. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Skype is a binary-only stuff, so I can't fix anything. In anyway, give alsa-info.sh output (run with --no-upload option). And I'm afraid there is not much possible in skype, when pulseaudio is running, no other options are available.
