For WIndows partitions this uses /windows/C, /windows/D, ... as mount points unless changed by the user. 2) The Graphical User Interfaces (Gnome and KDE) have tools integrated That automatically offer to mount detected partitions (e.g. if an USB storage medium is attached). To decide which is the problematic one in your case, please provide following Information: 1) content of your /etc/fstab 2) do you use gnome or KDE? 3) is there any popup after you login to Gnone or KDE that has to do with mounting partitions?
