The "unexpected exception" bug is fixed in 10.3. But still, there is no way to skip the installation from the CD, zypper would still quit after you type 'n' in the media change prompt. You have to (e.g.) disable the CD repository and start a new transaction (e.g. the update) to get around this problem. (IIRC this is also the status quo in debian's apt). This might be a nice feature, but not an easy one to implement. I'll add it to our internal feature tracking system (maybe its already there).
